Marc Doten

spy

Native Angeleno Marc Doten is a producer, composer and musician who follows his ears into whatever musical trouble seems interesting. In some capacity or another, he’s worked with The Persuasions, Carlos Guitarlos, Van Dyke Parks, Dave Alvin, Taj Mahal, Mike Watt, John Doe, David Hidalgo, Stan Ridgway, The Wondermints, Kristian Hoffman, Gitane Demone, Jessica Harper, The Blue Hawaiians, I See Hawks In L.A., Ronit Kirchman, Andy Sykora, King Kukulele, Moris Tepper, Lili Hayden, Eisa Davis, and the Wild Acoustic Chamber Orchestra. He frequently accompanies avant pop songmeister Stew, and played keyboard in Stew’s astonishing musical play “Passing Strange” in Berkeley and New York City.

Marc plays bass and writes music for the darkly psychedelic instrumental rock group Double Naught Spy Car, described by Guitar Player magazine as “brutal yet poetic”. His earlier combo, The Native Shrubs Of The Santa Monica Mountains, was characterized by composer Van Dyke Parks as “Oscar Levant at a lunch of pharmacopia with Judy Garland”.
